Marc Mangum – Producer and Writer

“So where did you get the idea for Food Boy?” is usually the first question Marc hears when someone is introduced to this story. According to Marc, he first thought of the idea late one night while trying to tell his son a quick bedtime story. It started something like, “Once upon a time….there was….a boy. And he had a special power….he could…make peanut butter sandwiches in his hands.” His son laughed so Marc went with it.

Brothers Marc and Sam Mangum had been dreaming of making movies together for years. In early 2006 they finally decided that the time was right to stop dreaming and start producing. Later that year the brothers started production on a short film titled Food Boy: The Short Film. Marc wrote the script for the short film based on that brief bedtime story he had told his son. Food Boy: The Short Film was named one of the best indie short films of 2007 by KIDS First!, a leading organization for kid’s programming.

With this success behind them, Marc left his day job as a successful attorney to pursue his dream of writing and producing great stories. Marc wrote the script for The Adventures of Food Boy, and then formed Cold Spark Films with his brother Sam. Based on the success of their short film, they quickly raised the money to produce a feature length version of The Adventures of Food Boy. They began production of the feature film in mid-2007 and brought back several key members of the creative team from Food Boy: The Short Film including director Dane Cannon and cinematographer Ryan Cannon. (Dane and Ryan are not related).

Marc’s vision and love for this story have been the driving forces to bring this all to life. He wanted to tell a story that we could all relate to while putting something on the screen that none of us has ever seen before. The result is a hilarious and endearing comedy about a typical teenager, forced to confront a very not typical superpower, who eventually starts to realize that not all superheroes fight crime.
