Sam Mangum – Producer and Editor Being the youngest of seven children, like Sam is, has its distinct advantages and a few disadvantages. One aspect of starting life in that situation (although it’s unclear if this is an advantage or disadvantage) is that it practically forces a kid to become a performer. Who doesn’t want to see the little brother do something cute or funny? So Sam was almost pre-destined to pursue a career in entertainment. With five older brothers, of course he was introduced to hundreds of superheroes in his early years. At age two, he even played the part of “Baby Superman” in a high school skit with one of his older brothers. That was the first step in a long process that culminated in Sam becoming his high school’s very unique mascot—“Super Fan.” So it’s safe to say that Sam has always loved superhero stories. Shortly after Sam started film school, he and his older brother Marc began brainstorming about different ideas for movies that they could make together. Both of them love movies and love seeing a great story brought to life. After several years of planning and brainstorming, they decided to start actually doing something more than just talk. So they chose the concept of Food Boy as their first project. They first decided to produce a short film. Sam acted as a one of the producers of the award winning short film Food Boy: The Short Film which was named by KIDS First! as one of the best indie short films for kids in 2007. With that success behind them, they made the jump to producing a feature film. Throughout the entire process of bringing the story of Food Boy to life, Marc and Sam have continued to collaborate creatively, with Marc acting as writer and Sam as editor. The result is a hilarious and endearing comedy about a typical teenager, forced to confront a very not typical superpower, and an epic movie food fight that will hopefully inspire great food fights for many generations to come. |
